West Coast Experience
Glaciers, Lakes & Lagoons
If you enjoy hiking but prefer shorter, more manageable walks, this journey is a great fit. Each day offers something different – from gentle tracks through alpine landscapes and coastal rainforest to unique experiences on the water. The tour begins in Christchurch and offers wide open views at Lake Tekapo on our way to Wānaka, where a water taxi brings us to a quieter side of the lake. The next day we explore the Matukituki Valley and walk towards Rob Roy Glacier, surrounded by waterfalls and alpine scenery. Reaching the West Coast, the focus shifts more towards water and atmosphere. A jet boat journey up the Waiatoto River takes us into a remote landscape, followed by time in Ōkārito, a small settlement known for its lagoon and wetlands. Here, a guided bird watch tour offers a calm and immersive experience on the water. In between we change it up by walking through rainforest, along quiet beaches and around Lake Matheson, known for its reflections of New Zealand’s highest peaks. Further north, another scenic waterways tour near Hokitika adds yet another perspective, before the journey turns inland again. We head back to Christchurch but take our time at Arthur’s Pass for a beautiful alpine walk, surrounded by mountain scenery and native plants. This is a gentle but varied journey, designed for women who enjoy being outdoors without the need for long or demanding days. A mix of movement, nature and time to take things in – with many small moments that stay with you. From the lakes of Central Otago to the wild West Coast and into the alpine landscapes of Arthur’s Pass, this tour offers a rich and quietly rewarding experience. Curious to see the West Coast in a different way? Come walk – and float – with us.
